Letter: Former mayor endorses Gould, Warren

I served on the Gearhart City Council for six years, from 1976 to 1982 and during that time I worked with the rest of the council to pass our comprehensive plan; I also spent time promoting the city’s minimum lot size ordinance from 5,000 square feet to 10,000 which passed and stands to this day.

I served as mayor for five terms from 1992 to 2012. During this time we addressed the closure of a popular path to Little Beach, which we couldn’t win. We also addressed the attempt of a group that requested to change our zoning rules to allow the destruction of a fairway on our golf links for the purpose of building condominiums there. We eventually won this.

During these years I witnessed the interactions of various kinds of people, mostly good folks with the occasional buffoon. Recent elections have seen a lot of contention and a lot of noise around town and on the internet.

I recommend voting for Dana Gould and Brent Warren for the City Council; they have common sense, social understanding and no axes to grind. They are people persons and have good backgrounds in law enforcement (Dana), and banking (Brent). Leadership skills are part of their experience. They have my full endorsement, please vote for them.
