Clatsop County has found its new county counsel.

Anthony Pope, the counsel for Curry County, is tentatively scheduled to step into the role in late October, Clatsop County said in a statement.

“We’re excited to have him aboard,” Mark Kujala, the chairman of the county Board of Commissioners, said at a meeting on Sept. 28. “I think he’s going to be a great addition.”

County commissioners will consider an employment agreement with Pope at an upcoming meeting.

Pope replaces Joanna Lyons-Antley, who resigned for family reasons in March after serving in the position more than two years.

“The county counsel is the chief legal officer of Clatsop County and provides legal representation to the Board of Commissioners, all county departments and the various county boards, committees and commissions on legal matters of concern to the county and its residents,” the county said.
