Gerry Siegmann, 82, has been a regular vendor at the Seaside Farmers Market for three years now. But on July 13, the birdhouse maker and vendor for “Just 4 the Byrds,” was robbed of more than $1,000.

A woman took his cash out of his pocket and booth while he was loading his scooter into his trailer after the market, Tim Hohl of Coin Toss Brewing in Oregon City, said.

Hohl, who also maintains a booth at the Seaside outdoor market, recognized that Siegmann, a Rockaway resident, was vulnerable and needed assistance.

“He walks with a cane and he was vulnerable in this situation,” Hohl said in a GoFundMe page appeal.

The suspect hopped in a car, which sped off quickly out of the parking lot. “Several of the other vendors including myself saw her at the market and a police report was filed,” Hohl said. “But it’s unlikely the cash will be recovered.”

On Sept. 28, the Seaside market’s closing day, friends, patrons of Hohl’s brewery in Oregon City and GoFundMe donors combined to lessen the blow for Siegmann.

They met and exceeded Hohl’s initial goal of $800, raising and delivering a check to Siegmann for $1,130.
