Welcome to the Seaside Signal. Autumn is making its way to Seaside with luscious fall sunsets and the summer crowds lifting, a great time to visit and explore the sights.
Unauthorized dune work
Imagine walking by the dunes one day and find that more than an acre of grass and trees were suddenly gone. That’s what resident Michael Burger saw, and he reported trees removed and dune grass illegally moved last weekend between Avenue S and Lewis and Clark Way. Food Forest
This sounds like a great opportunity for Seaside residents to make a difference.
In the spring, David Posalski brought emergency food and supply kits to Seaside residents with his “food bucket” campaign. The packages came with buckets, tools, radio and food for a family to eat for up to three weeks. Posalski is looking to broaden his focus with a new initiative called the Seaside Food Forest. Posalski describes the initiative as “a community of neighbors working together to ensure food security, livability, biological diversity, wildlife habitat, and a cleaner environment.” The project would promote community gardens, recycling and sponsor a tool library. He envisions partnerships with area groups and educational opportunities for students.
The Food Forest’s first meeting takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 4 p.m. at Seaside City Hall.
Three-lane solution?
Readers are following the long-term process to make U.S. Highway 101 safer in Gearhart. A new study is in its final stages before it goes to the Oregon Department of Transportation and state lawmakers for approvals and grants.
Seventy-five potential projects are listed in the plan. At the top of the list, input has led to a call for a reconfiguration of the roadway, with bike lanes, a left-turn lane and a roundabout at Pacific Way..
