A man in his 50s died Labor Day in a kayaking accident in Seaside.

According to Jon Rahl, the city’s public information officer, Seaside Fire and Rescue responded to a report of an empty kayak in the ocean off Fourth Avenue at 10:45 a.m. Lifeguards and rescuers responded with two rescue craft, police said, searching the surf zone before the victim was found in the water off Second Avenue. The body was brought to shore at 11:14 a.m.

The victim was transported to Providence Seaside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
