- Clatsop County Task Force 28 left Seaside on Sept. 3.
A Clatsop County task force responded to a call for resources at the Double Creek Fire in Joseph on Sept. 3, Seaside Fire Chief Joey Daniels reported.
Crews were requested after Gov. Kate Brown signed a conflagration order. The Double Creek Fire, located in Hells Canyon National Recreation Area, is about 15 miles north of Joseph in northeastern Oregon. The fire was first detected on Aug. 30, and covers almost 40,000 acres of land.
Nearly 500 firefighters are at the scene, and are engaged with helicopter and air tanker support to battle the blaze, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Clatsop County sent out Task Force 28. Matt Keefer went as the task force leader, while Division Chief Genesee Dennis and seasonal firefighter Dillon Rhinevault helped staff other rigs in the county. Seaside deployed crews along with Knappa, Lewis and Clark, Warrenton, Gearhart and Astoria firefighters.
Task Force 20, which responded to the Rum Creek Fire in Josephine County, is expected back this week, Daniels said.
