The childish outburst from Preston Devereaux, newly declared candidate for Gearhart City Council at the Aug. 30 Gearhart City Council work session clearly demonstrated he does not have the maturity for the job.

Nor does he have a clear understanding of how city government works and the number of hours city councilors put in to serve their constituents. Devereaux obviously did not have the patience or the time to view the entire work session. Had he been an active listener, he would have known the meeting had been extended so our hardworking city officials could conclude their business in one night rather than returning to complete the job a second night.

Thank you, Mr. Devereaux. You helped me make my decision early.

P.S. Just a heads up. If you were a city councilor, you would be expected to come to the session prepared and having already read the material.
