In the months since the Vista Ridge II application was first presented to the Seaside Planning Commission, opposition to the plan has increased from neighbors. They say that the 15-home plan doesn’t take into account the sensitive environment, steep slopes, wetlands and fish-bearing streams. They turned out Tuesday to let their thoughts be known as the project heads for another review in July.
Gearhart changes
Kerry Smith first won election to the City Council in 2016. In 2020, he ran for a second term, defeating opponent Jack Zimmerman. We’ve known Smith as a frank, honest and dedicated councilor who has voted his conscience. Smith will now fill the unexpired term of former Mayor Paulina Cockrum, who stepped down after last month’s contentious firehouse vote. Can Smith bring a sense of unity to Gearhart?
Chamber CEO
It’s musical chairs at top business posts in Seaside, as Chamber of Commerce CEO Brian Owen won the top spot at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center. Katie McCloud, the chamber’s marketing and communications manager, will serve as acting CEO. McCloud came to Seaside a little more than a year ago, and in that time has distinguished herself as capable and creative, winning an award from the Oregon Chamber of Commerce for her social media campaign, “Women in Business.”
