No bikes on the Ridge Path — that’s proving a controversial notion in Gearhart, as councilors consider a proposed ban on bikes on the historic path running from the city’s north to south. The proposal came to the fore after the cutting of a tree to widen the path, along with complaints from neighbors along the path.

Not only at the top, but from the library to the water department, Seaside is seeing vacancies in city government. Along with the “big three” — city manager, convention center manager and planning director — the city could witness a sea change at every level.

Seaside residents got their first introduction to Rachel Armitage, state Senate designate filling the seat vacated by Betsy Johnson. Armitage spoke via Zoom to the council with a recap of the short legislative season — of note, child care funding and private forest accord. According to Armitage, Environmentalists and timber industry professionals “came to the table as well as small woodland owners and came up with some commonsense agreements,” she told the council.

And as mask mandates are lifted, the Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District hosted “A Knight Out,” a dance celebration at the Sunset Recreation Center. More than 200 people attended the family dance, featuring music, dancing, cupcakes and crowns.
