Aug. 1
12:42 a.m., 1000 block 12th Avenue: Suspicious circumstances are reported.
1:51 a.m., Beach and Second: Caller reports woman in an emotional state has run into the ocean. She was out of the water when police arrived and refused to speak to them.
9:45 a.m., 500 block N. Downing: Caller reports dog not cared for that lives on the porch. Police spoke with the owner and were assured the dog is being cared for.
Aug. 2
6:03 p.m., Broadway Park: A woman walking back and forth swinging a machete is reported. As police are unable to get a good description, they were unable to locate.
Aug. 3
2:43 a.m., Avenue G and the Prom: A minor is cited for being in possession of alcohol.
6:54 a.m., U.S. Highway 101 near the old high school: A car accident is reported. Ambulance is involved.
5:36 p.m., Broadway and Columbia: A little girl reported lost is reunited with her parents prior to police arrival.
9:29 p.m., 1200 block Beach Drive: A person reported sleeping in their car says they’ve only been napping for a few hours and they will be moving along.
Aug. 4
5:10 a.m., Northgate Park: A person is cited for unlawful lodging.
4:12 p.m., Outlet Mall: A business reported a theft from their store. They said the subjects left the area in a U-Haul box van.
6:15 p.m., Safeway: Caller reports subject yelling at an injured seagull. The seagull took off prior to police arrival.
Aug. 5
6:43 a.m., 300 block S. Roosevelt: A transient male reported in the loading dock refusing to leave the area is trespassed from the property.
11:59 a.m., S. Wahanna: A male reported sleeping on private property is advised to move along. The manager of the property called back two hours later to say the person is still there and is now urinating on the property.
12:50 p.m., U.S. Highway 101 near Avenue U: People reported unloading garbage on the side of the road say they are dropping off belongings for a camp in the woods.
2:51 p.m., 600 block Broadway: Caller reports a dog in a car honking the car’s horn. Dog and car are gone prior to police arrival.

8:23 p.m., U.S. Highway 101 and Captain Kid PlayLand: A car on fire is reported. Police are unable to locate any burning vehicle.

Oregon State Police
Domestic incidentA 29-year-old Seaside man was reported by an Astoria woman July 22 at 11:49 p.m.; the complainant said she witnessed him abusing one of his three children, ages 11, 10 and 5 on Del Rey beach while impaired. The suspect fled prior to law enforcement arriving and was not located. Police have the man’s name.
Two elderly people who share the same last name from Vancouver, Washington were traveling east July 23 at 11:37 p.m. on U.S. Highway 26 by milepost 14 when the passenger commented to the driver about the darkness of the road. The driver, 73, veered off the highway on to the eastbound shoulder, hitting a guard rail, and stopping in the westbound lane. Hamlet firefighters and state police responded to the scene and the driver was given a citation. His Dodge van was towed. No injuries were reported.
Reckless driving
Yovani Mora Lopez, 24, from Hillsboro was issued a criminal citation for reckless driving July 24 at 4:24 p.m. on U.S. Highway 26 at milepost 13, eastbound. Troopers saw him speeding and conducted a traffic stop. Mora Lopez was given paperwork to return to court Aug. 7 and was released from the scene.
Domestic assultJoshua W. Raniero, 29 from Gearhart, was arrested and taken into custody July 25 at 4:01 p.m. after state police were contacted by Gearhart police regarding his detainment at their police headquarters on probable cause from an earlier Oregon State Police report regarding domestic assault and reckless endangerment. Involved are three juveniles, ages five, ten, and eleven, who live in Gearhart. Raniero was taken to the county jail and lodged.
Vandalism
Two Portland men are under investigation for a vandalism incident reported July 26 at 10:34 a.m. at the summit of Saddle Mountain State Park. A responding trooper located a car with the suspects as described by the reporting party; the suspects, a 32-year-old male and a 40-year-old male, denied the vandalism. After interviewing the two and getting their identification, the trooper returned to the site of the vandalism and photographed it for documentation. The case is open and under investigation.
Dog running loose
A dog running loose on U.S. Highway 26 near milepost 21 eastbound July 26 at 17:05 p.m., was caught by a Tigard woman who brought it to the junction at U.S. Highway 101 and U.S. Highway 26 where she was met by a state trooper. The dog, black German shepherd wearing a red shock collar, was brought to the Clatsop County Animal Shelter by the trooper and left in a kennel.
Cadillac vandalized
A Hillsboro woman reported her Cadillac was vandalized and items were taken while she was parked at Ecola State Park at 6:11 p.m. July 28. She said her bankcards were stolen and used at area stores. Police are investigating.
Motorcycle pursuit
On July 31 on U.S. Highway 26 at 1:10 p.m., a trooper traveling westbound on patrol saw a large group of motorcyclists speed racing near milepost 10. After catching up with two involved motorcyclists, the trooper activated their emergency overhead lights and siren, but the two sped off, eluding them. Seaside police later located one of the motorcyclists, Beau Anthony Marthaller, 30, from Longview, Washington, who was issued a criminal citation for reckless driving and attempts to elude. The second motorcyclist who attempted to elude the trooper, Spencer Jacob Carsner, 22, from Beaverton, crashed his bike while being pursued near milepost 24 on U.S. Highway 101. He was detained by Seaside police before being transported to the hospital. Carsner was also issued a criminal citation for reckless driving and attempts to elude. His bike was towed from the scene by Triangle Towing.
Cyclist injured
A 65-year-old female cyclist who crashed her ride Aug. 3 at 5:18 p.m., on U.S. Highway 101 and Hillila Road briefly lost consciousness; she was transported via Medix to Columbia Memorial Hospital. Police say she was riding with her husband when she swerved to avoid broken glass. ODOT workers transported her husband and both bicycles back to the couple’s car located a short distance away.
