10:36 a.m., 900 block Holladay Drive: A disturbance is reported.

10:54 a.m., 2100 block S. Franklin: A subject is cited for disorderly conduct.

4:56 p.m., 800 block 13th Avenue: A hit and run car accident is reported.

5:29 p.m., Police headquarters: An iPhone found on the beach is turned in to police for safekeeping.

Feb. 6

3:07 p.m., 400 block 15th Avenue: A resident reports their mail stolen.

6:53 p.m., 400 block 12th Avenue: Caller reports neighbor making a racket. Police contact neighbor who says they are arguing with someone over the phone. They are advised of the complaint and agree to lower the volume.

Feb. 7

6:04 p.m., Carousel Mall: A subject sleeping in a doorway is advised to move along.

8:14 p.m., 1200 block S. Roosevelt: Subjects asked to leave the premises by employees are slow to leave; officers arrive and tell them they are indefinitely trespassed.

Feb. 8

4:27 p.m., 2500 block Mason Street: A subject reported on property they’ve been trespassed tells police the homeowners have asked him to keep an eye on the property. No further information was available.

5:38 p.m., 1100 block S. Wahanna: A reported domestic incident at a duplex residence is determined by police to be kids playing.

9:14 a.m., 2500 block Queen Street: A disturbance is reported.

9:52 a.m., Avenue A: Caller reports a property crime in the past; she said her truck lock was damaged.

10:06 a.m., 800 block 10th Avenue: Caller reports a dangerous hole in front of his water meter. Public Works is advised and says they will remedy the situation.

12:16 p.m., 1100 block Avenue A: Caller reports her neighbor is looking at her mail. Police speak to the neighbor and warn them to stop doing that.

11:33 p.m., Beach Drive and Ocean Vista: A disturbance is reported.

Oregon State Police

Medical event

A 77-year-old Astoria man experiencing a medical event crossed the eastbound lane of U.S.Highway 26 near milepost 17 Feb. 1 at 12:37 p.m., crashing into a ditch. Passersby performed CPR, Medix arrived, but the man was pronounced dead.

Single-car crash

Troopers responded to a report of a single-car crash Feb. 2 at 5:07 p.m. on U.S. Highway 26 milepost 10.5. On arrival they saw a silver Toyota pickup traveling west that lost control, left the road, and crashed into a tree. The 71-year-old driver wasn’t injured and Gary’s Towing removed the pickup.

Too fast

A citation was issued to a 65-year-old Seaside man Feb. 4 at 6:48 p.m., after troopers responded to the scene of an accident on U.S. Highway 101 and milepost 17. The driver said he was traveling 55 mph and talking to his passenger, a 36-year-old man from Colorado Springs, when his car left the roadway, got up on the southbound shoulder, traveled 100 feet where it struck dense vegetation, spun around and came to a stop facing north. Police saw no standing water or skid marks. The car sustained significant damage inconsistent with the driver’s stated speed. The car was tagged with yellow caution tape for removal later. No injuries were reported.

Rear-ended

Police responded to a two-car crash on U.S. Highway 101 and Glenwood Village Lane on Feb. 8 at 2:07 p.m., after one car traveling southbound hit the rear of another car making a left turn. The occupants of both cars were transported to CMH for evaluation. One car was towed by Classic Towing. The other could be driven from the scene.

Assault

State police were requested at Seaside Providence Hospital Feb. 8 at 6:32 p.m. for a report of an assault. A 63-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency room after reportedly being struck in the face by her 25-year-old granddaughter, who lives in Hillsboro. The victim said she was driving on U.S. Highway 26 near the junction of Route 53, when her granddaughter struck her, causing her to crash the car. After she came to a stop, the granddaughter continued to punch her repeatedly in the head and face before exiting the vehicle. The victim drove away from the scene. She arrived at the hospital about 45 minutes after the reported incident. Attempts were made to locate the granddaughter without success.

Icy conditions

A 43-year-old Portland woman lost control of the wheel Feb. 9 at 8:43 a.m. on U.S. Highway 26 near milepost 7. She crossed the westbound lane and crashed into an earthen bank. Airbags were deployed, the car was damaged. She wasn’t injured. Icy conditions were to blame.

Driver hits elk

An elk that ran out in front of a driver Feb. 10 at 9:02 a.m. on U.S. Highway 101 traveling south near milepost 17 caused extensive damage to the vehicle, but no injuries to the driver or passenger. The fate of the elk is unknown.

Three die in three-vehicle crash

Three people died Feb. 10 in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 26. Police say a Mercedes station wagon was heading westbound at around 10 a.m. about 2 miles east of the state Highway 53 junction when the driver lost control and slid sideways into the eastbound lanes, colliding with a Toyota Tacoma driven by a Seaside woman. Walter Smith, 21, of Pendleton, who was driving the Mercedes, died. His passengers, Erick Fadness, 20, of Decorah, Iowa, and a 16-year-old female from Portland also died. The Seaside woman who was driving the Toyota Tacoma was flown to a Portland hospital. The highway was temporarily closed while law enforcement investigated and reconstructed the crash.

Drunk driver

Brian Paul McCarthy, 43, was arrested on scene Feb. 11 at 1:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 101 and Sunset Beach Lane charged with Driving While Under the Influence of Intoxicants — Alcohol after police responded to a report of an intoxicated driver who rear-ended the car traveling in front of him. McCarthy was transported to the Clatsop County jail where he provided a breath sample showing a B.A.C. of .24%. He was issued additional citations for driving without a license, driving uninsured. A charge of Reckless Endangering has been referred to the District Attorney’s office. His car was towed from the scene by Classic Towing. The sheriff’s office and ODOT assisted at the scene.
