1:16 a.m., N. Prom: Police speak with a subject who hotel employees say is making guests uncomfortable. Subject agrees to move along.

6:29 a.m., Chamber restrooms: A transient man sleeping in front of the bathroom doors and blocking access is advised to move along.

1:13 a.m., 700 block Tenth Avenue: Structure fire.

2:42 p.m. Shore Terrace and Wahanna: Caller reports a person walking a horse down a city street. Police contact horse and owner who advises a trailer is on the way to pick them up.

3:54 p.m., 1200 block S. Holladay: Caller reports a man with duct tape across his mouth banging on the wall at the side of a business. Subject recently displayed similar behavior earlier at police headquarters. The subject advised his duct tape was his COVID mask. He agreed to move along.

2:32 p.m., 900 block Avenue S: Property crimes are reported.

5:44 a.m., Post Office: A transient sleeping and blocking the entrance to the post office is advised to move along.

8:52 a.m., Peter Iredale Road: A park ranger locates a reported stolen vehicle.

4:52 p.m., 400 block Third Avenue: A disturbance is reported.

12:02 a.m., 2100 block S. Edgewood: Suspicious circumstances are reported.

5:20 a.m., Holladay and Avenue G: A person is cited for careless driving.

8:05 a.m., Cooper and Huckleberry: Police and other agencies on scene at the scene of a crash.

10:35 p.m., 700 block S. Wahanna: Police respond to a report of someone causing a disturbance at the hospital. Police stood by while patient waited for a cab and left the premises.

1:55 p.m., Subway parking area: A person is arrested and charged with possession of heroin.

8:39 p.m., Ocean Shore: Gunshots or fireworks are reported. Police canvass the area with negative results.

Oregon State Police

Suicidal male

Police went to the Sunset Beach area Jan. 17 at 3:10 p.m. looking for a young man whose mother, located in Washington, notified police of her son’s mental status. She said the 19-year-old, who lives in Washington, made several comments indicating self-harm. Clatsop County deputies located the young man first; they initiated contact and the male agreed to go to the hospital. Deputies retained three firearms for safe-keeping.

Open container citations

A yellow Mazda crashed Jan. 17 at 5:04 p.m. on U.S. Highway 101 and the U.S. Highway 26 junction after the driver took the curve at too high a speed and slid off the roadway. No injuries were reported. The driver and two other occupants of the car were cited for open container; the driver received additional citations including driving without insurance. Triangle Towing arrived on scene to impound the Mazda to Cannon Beach police. Mairsela Miguel Gomez, 23; Esmeralda Miguel-Andres, 18; and Josefina Jasmin Ramirez, 24, were given a courtesy lift to a motel in Seaside.

Minor injuries after crash

Two Seaside women were involved in a crash Jan. 18 at 11:22 a.m. on U.S. Highway 101 near milepost 16. Traffic traveling northbound came to a halt due to a piece of machinery that fell off a trailer into the road. The first car stopped to help the owner move the item; the car behind her also stopped. The third car did not see the other two stopped and crashed into the second car which pushed it into the first. Minor injuries were reported by two of the drivers. Two cars were towed by Gary’s Tow.

Portland woman charged with assault

Troopers went to a location on U.S. Highway 26 and Bear Road for a report of a fight between a Portland man and a Portland woman. Jasmine Elizabeth Lawson, 23, was arrested on scene and charged with assault, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. She was checked for injuries and medically cleared by staff at Columbia Memorial Hospital before being transported for lodging at the Clatsop County jail.

Car slides into trees

A 22-year-old man told troopers Jan. 25 at 8:59 a.m., he was traveling on U.S. Highway 26 near milepost 22 when he lost control on the slippery roads, skidded, and slid off the road into the forest. The car was badly damaged but there were no injuries. The driver was cited for being uninsured. A wrecker towed the car out of the trees, and the vehicle’s owner who was not the driver, said they would return later with a trailer to tow it away. The car was tagged for removal within 24 hours. It’s unclear how the driver, the car owner, and their passenger, another male, left the area.

Dead man on the riverbank

Troopers responded to the river beach at Fort Stevens State Park Jan. 25 at 12:45 p.m. for a report of an unresponsive male. On arrival, they saw the man was dead. No further information is available at this time.

Suspicious person

State police assisted Gearhart police and the Clatsop County Sheriffs Office Jan. 26 at 4:16 p.m., at the Gearhart Liquor Store on U.S. Highway 101 after an employee reported a person entered the store without a mask. When told masks are required, the person said they are a police officer. The subject left the premises and was found later at an undisclosed location. Police are investigating.

Abandoned car recovered

An unoccupied vehicle was reported stranded in the surf Jan. 28 at 12:22 p.m. just north of the Del Ray Beach access. The Sons of Beaches dragged a white Jeep Wrangler out of the water and it was towed from the scene by Gary’s Towing. It was not reported at the time if the recovered vehicle was abandoned or stolen.

Medical event

A 77-year-old Astoria man experiencing a medical event crossed the eastbound lane of U.S.Highway 26 near milepost 17 Feb. 1 at 12:37 p.m., crashing into a ditch. Passersby performed CPR, Medix arrived, but the man was pronounced dead.{/div}
