The Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District is closing the Sunset Pool for two weeks after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.

“We have one employee who had a confirmed positive test,” Skyler Archibald, the recreation district’s executive director, said. “They are recovering at home. They are in contact with their medical provider and the health department.”

Melissa Ousley, marketing and special events manager for the recreation district, said the district is working with the Clatsop County Public Health Department on contact tracing of any exposure to staff.

“At this time, we do not believe there has been exposure to the public,” she said in a statement.

But Archibald said some staff had exposure to the positive case.

“Unfortunately, just because of the close proximity of some of our working situations, the employee had had some exposure to a fair amount of our staff and we were not able to operate the pool with all of those staff,” Archibald said.

Staff that had close, personal contact with the positive case are being asked to self-isolate for 14 days from their last contact with the positive case.

“It’s a tricky situation and kind of difficult, but we didn’t feel we could staff the pool or put our users and patrons at risk,” Archibald said.

The pool will remain closed until Nov. 18 as a precaution.
