‘Treasure the Beach’ cleanup

“Treasure the Beach” cleanups resume Saturday, Aug. 1 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at 60 N. Prom in Seaside.

The cleanup, a collaboration between Seaside Aquarium, SOLVE and the city of Seaside returns after being suspended because of COVID-19 in April.

Last year, a total of 450 people volunteer throughout the year to remove over 1,865 pounds of trash off of Seaside’s beach.

Razor clam

closure in effect

Local beaches are closed to clamming through Sept. 30, the Oregon Department of Agriculture announced. The closure is for Clatsop beaches only, from the Columbia River south to Tillamook Head. The earliest razor clamming on the Clatsop Beaches could open is Oct. 1. This conservation closure does not apply to beaches south of Tillamook Head.

Recreational mussel, bay clam and crab harvesting is open along the entire Oregon Coast.

Students make Oregon State honor roll

Oregon State University named local students to the scholastic honor roll for the spring term. A total of 7,004 students earned a B-plus (3.5 grade point average) or better to make the listing. To be on the honor roll, students must carry at least 12 graded hours of course work.

Among those named were Gearhart’s Hunter Thompson, a senior majoring in forest engineering; Cannon Beach’s Annuka A. Brown, a senior majoring in human development and family science, and Chance M. Giguiere, a freshman majoring in general engineering.

Seaside residents named to the honor roll include Parker Conrad, a sophomore majoring in general engineering; Andrea Harris, a sophomore, majoring in human development and family science; Julie Mason, a junior, majoring in business administration; Gage Mergel, a freshman, majoring in music; Berkley D. Posalski, a senior, majoring in construction engineering management; Brittany West, a senior, majoring in forestry, and Chelsea Woods, a senior, majoring in English.

Art Walk

Celebrating 16 years in 2020, the next Seaside First Saturday Art Walk, will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. The free event takes place between Holladay Drive and Broadway Street in the Historic Gilbert District.
