Graduation Day information for Seaside High School families, graduates
Published 3:00 pm Tuesday, May 26, 2020
- Graduation will look very different this year. Last year, more than 100 graduating seniors received diplomas during Seaside High School’s commencement ceremony at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center.
The Seaside High School Class of 2020 graduation ceremony takes place June 8 at 5 p.m., at the Seaside Turnaround and Seaside Civic and Convention Center.
Students will be assigned a time between 4 and 4:30 p.m. to arrive at North Coast Family Fellowship Church in their car to allow for placing graduate vehicles in the correct order of the procession based on their “walking” partner requests. Graduates are allowed one car and should abide by Oregon traffic laws for occupancy. If possible, we are asking participants to please refrain from using any excessively “lifted” vehicles or unusually tall vehicles that might unintentionally impede the view of other participants at the convention center parking lot.
The procession to Broadway Street and the Turnaround will leave North Coast Family Fellowship at 5 p.m. and be led by the Seaside Police Department down Wahanna onto Broadway.
Diplomas will be handed to the graduates at the Turnaround by members of the Seaside School District School Board. This will be live streamed in its entirety. We are requesting that all occupants of the graduate’s vehicle remain in the vehicle except for the graduates that have elected to get out of the car to have their diplomas handed to them. All graduates should be seated in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. The public will not be allowed to access the turnaround during the delivery of diplomas. We will have a professional photographer on site to capture the acceptance of the diploma and each graduate will receive a complimentary 5×7 photograph. Additional photographs will be available for purchase.
Upon receiving their diploma, graduates will be directed to the convention center parking lot by turning left on Columbia, right on First Avenue and will enter through the entrance on First Avenue. District personnel will be on hand to assist with parking vehicles in a drive-in style facing east towards the convention center and stage. Please remain in your vehicle for the duration of the program. A video board will be on hand for viewing all graduates receiving their diplomas and the ceremony. Access to the convention center parking lot will only be provided to graduate vehicles. The public will not be allowed access inside the perimeter of the parking lot.
In an effort to keep our graduates and their guests safe, we will be providing a livestream of the ceremony in its entirety. The YouTube Live link for the ceremony will be released when it is finalized. Additionally, the audio broadcast of the entire ceremony will be available through KWSB radio at 98.1 FM, 840 AM, and kswbradio.com.
A professionally produced video of the day’s activities will be made available for all graduates, at no cost to them, upon completion of the ceremony and production of the video.

My mom, JoAnn Amorde Berg, would have loved to read your account of the 1947 Miss Oregon Pageant! She was forever grateful for her opportunity to serve as Miss Oregon, and attend the Miss America Pageant. She never tired of telling how generous the city of Seaside was to her.
She was a small-town girl from very humble circumstances. Your confidence in her was a key motivating force in her life. The doors you opened for her were beyond her dreams, making permanent impressions and changes in her.
Mom deeply understood what the Miss Oregon Pageant, and the city of Seaside, contributed to her life, exactly how lucky she was to have stood on that stage.
She would be simultaneously saddened and grateful that the pageant will not be held this year. Taking their lead from the Miss America organization, the Miss Oregon Pageant Board of Directors has wisely chosen to err on the side of caution. Safety first!
Although one lucky girl will not see the doors open for her, we do have a dedicated Miss Oregon in Shivali Kadam, who has graciously agreed to extend her year of service.
How glorious will it be when we have made it through this next year and we stand on the streets of Seaside waving to our favorite participants in the Miss Oregon Parade? It will be a joyous day of sunshine, sea breeze, and the doors will open once again! Perhaps we will even enjoy it more after the quarantines!
