Two restaurants featuring cuisines from around the globe, each won liquor licenses at the April 22 City Council meeting.

McBani, a Lebanese restaurant at 409 Broadway, has been in Seaside at this location since 2012. Owner Randy McBoul sought a limited on-remises sales license allowing for the sale of malt beverages, wine and cider for consumption on the premises.

Angelina’s Pizza and Cafe at 1815 South Roosevelt Drive sought to obtain a full on-premises commercial liquor license.

Elizabeth Hall of Angelina’s said she was responding to requests from guests for wine and specialty drinks.

With 20 employees, she said the license was needed for an additional revenue stream to stay afloat. She said the restaurant will keep the same hours, to 10 weekdays and 11 on Friday and Saturdays.

While police due diligence showed “conduct issues” with some employees, Angelina’s record has been “spotless” since the restaurant opened serving beer and wine last year, Mayor Jay Barber said.

A March 8 incident report cited Hall for failing to put up barriers between the outside service area where alcohol is allowed and the parking lot. Det. Bill Barnes checked the barriers on April 15, which he said, while not finished, “suffice as a barrier at this time.”

While it should not be considered a “repudiation” of the police department, Barber said, he and councilors Tom Horning, Tita Montero, Randy Frank, Seth Morrisey and Dana Phillips voted to support the license application. Steve Wright voted against issuance of the license.
