A dialogue on teen choices

Published 6:57 am Thursday, October 25, 2018

A community forum on social issues affecting teens comes to the Seaside Civic and Convention Center at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, presented by Providence Seaside Hospital, along with the Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District and Clatsop Children’s Theater Company.

The forum includes a one-act play, “Choices,” by Renee J. Clark, the story of a young high school student coping with stress and tension at home who takes solace in a new friendship that revolves around drug and alcohol use. This play, involving 10 area young actors, draws attention to issues facing youth today.

The event includes a panel discussion to generate dialogue about such topics as underage substance use, the psychosocial challenges faced by teenagers, and what adults can do to provide support that guides young people toward making wise choices.

There also will be the opportunity for small-group discussion among families. Community partners, including local behavioral health agencies and other organizations, will be present to provide resources or to answer questions.

Door prizes and refreshments provided. For more information, email cctc.artsdirector@gmail.com or call 503-741-5668.
