At the Monday, Sept. 10, Seaside City Council meeting, Mayor Jay Barber offered support for the $20 million bond plan to expand the aquatic facility at 1140 Broadway. “I consider this a bold, creative step in the best interests of our community,” Barber said. “Everything good for our community will cost people money. I personally hope the voters will see this an option that will improve the quality and culture of the community.”

The proposed expansion seeks to imprrove Sunset Empire Park and Recreation District programs with the addition of 40,000-square-feet to the existing 13,000-square-foot aquatic building. Plans call for an indoor walking track, fitness areas, and classrooms for preschoolers.
