- Alishia Boucher is the primary massage therapist and owner of Seaside Massage and Spa.
Pretty much the moment you walk in the door of Seaside Massage and Spa located on bustling Broadway in downtown, a feeling of tranquility and calm overtakes and you feel you can breathe deep.
It’s not just the décor (fresh, clean, simple but luxurious) or the light streaming in the reception area windows, or the pillowy soft flokati rug that feels so good barefoot.
It’s the love pouring from Alishia Boucher, licensed massage therapist, the spa’s proprietor.
“My aim,” Boucher (pronounced the French way, “boo-shay”) began, sitting on the plush and inviting sofa that dominates the reception area, “is providing the highest quality of massage available anywhere. Our space is absolutely gorgeous.”
Seaside Massage and Spa opened at 810 Broadway with a ribbon-cutting early this month.
Boucher decided to became a massage therapist after massage helped her with chronic pain. Two car accidents she’d been in during her early 20s left her with cervical strain, lumbar strain, and a degenerative disc.
At 25, she felt crippled by chronic pain, numbness, and headaches.
“I just wanted to get back to normal without using medication that left me feeling unmotivated and nauseated most of the time,” she said.
After being introduced to massage by a friend at the Breitenbush Hot Springs wellness retreat, she enrolled as a student at the East West College of the Healing Arts in Portland, graduating in 2011 with honors.
“Massage can change your life,” she said. “It changed mine.”
Seaside Massage and Spa offers a full menu of massage including Swedish, deep tissue, myofascial, pregnancy, hot stone, and traditional Thai. Aromatherapy can be added, as well as cupping, and cannabidiol balm.
Cupping, for those not in the know, uses negative pressure form cups to allow deep lifting of all tissues layers at specific points where range of motion and pain are occurring.
“We use silicone cups and no fire cupping,” Boucher said. ‘
The balm melts away aches and pains and inflammation. There are zero psychoactive effects and CBD is known to boost the healing process after injuries.
“There is no THC in the balm, which is important if you have a job that requires you take drug tests,” she said.
The spa also offers a range of other services including facials and waxing, all performed by Kristi Carson, a friend of Boucher’s who is also her co-massage therapist. Couples massage is available by request.
“We’re offering our signature facial, a revitalizing facial, a cleansing detox facial, and facials geared specifically for men,” Boucher said.
She will be adding teen facials in the future, because it’s never too early to start caring for your skin. The spa offers all kinds of waxing from eyebrows to Brazilian. Waxing is also available for men.
Seaside Massage and Spa uses only natural and organic products. Boucher’s preferred products are by the company Essance, made by Jasmine Tran in Portland. This reporter tried a sample of the facial cleanser and was impressed.
“My intention is that people come in here and feel they are being pampered at an exceptional level,” Boucher said. “Our clients come to us for wellness and care. Because of my own experience, I have empathy for those who come in pain.”
Boucher is an active advocate for expressing gratitude. She thanks her landlords, Kim and Blaine Roberts of Westport Winery. She especially thanks her husband, Joseph Boucher, who she said helped her get her new place of business ready.
“He is the love of my life and has been such a huge supporter of this adventure,” she said.
Business hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. Call 971-320-0624 to schedule an appointment or book through their Facebook page on message.
Boucher also offers mobile massage to your home or hotel, from relaxation to deep tissue. “We’re able to greatly improve chronic pain and tightened muscles,” she said. “We listen to your needs and create a massage designed specifically to you and your needs.”
