Astoria man killed in head-on collision on US Highway 101 near Gearhart

One person was killed and two were injured in a head-on collision that closed U.S. Highway 101 near Gearhart Tuesday evening.

At about 5:30 p.m., Dale Edward Larson, 84, of Astoria, died after crossing the centerline around milepost 15 and colliding into a black pickup truck traveling northbound, Oregon State Police Sgt. Andrew Merila said. Larson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to Oregon State Police.

The driver of the black truck, Jesse Gale Taylor of Seaside, and a passenger were sent to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria for minor injuries.

The crash occurred about 4 miles north of Gearhart.

The highway was closed for a few hours as officials cleaned up and investigated the scene.
