HILLSBORO — The Seaside baseball team won it the “Clatsop County way” Friday night, with a three-run rally in the seventh inning to defeat Scappoose 7-6 in a Cowapa League showdown at Ron Tonkin Stadium.

Seaside’s Payton Westerholm opened the seventh with a triple to right field.

Alex Teubner drove in Westerholm with a one-out single, and with two outs, a dropped fly ball by the Indians allowed Teubner to score the tying run and Dawson Blanchard to reach second.

Blanchard took third on a wild pitch, and scored the eventual game-winner on a passed ball.

Seaside’s Duncan Thompson pitched the final one and two-thirds innings to pick up the win.

Westerholm started and allowed just four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks. Both teams committed four errors in the field.

Teubner had two hits and drove in two runs, while Westerholm and Thompson combined on the mound to strike out eight with three walks. Three Scappoose pitchers struck out 13 with six walks.

The Gulls improve to 4-5 for fourth place in the league standings, with wins over all three teams ahead of them (Astoria, Banks and Scappoose).
