Girls

Gretchen Hoekstre, Track

The junior is the top-ranked thrower in the state at the 4A level, in both the shot put and discus. She had a personal best toss of 43 feeet, 4 inches in the Banks Invitational April 21, and also won the discus event. Her mark in the shot put broke a 31-year-old school record by almost four feet. Tracie Earl held the previous mark of 39-4¾, set in 1987.

Boys

Sam Hinton, Golf

Now a junior at Willamette University, Hinton (Seaside High School, Class of 2015) sank a 25-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to take first place at the 2018 Northwest Conference Tournament in men’s golf April 22 at Oakbrook Golf Club. Hinton shot a tournament-low 69 in the first round and a 74 in the second round. His 2-under 69 was the only sub-par round of the tournament.
