BANKS — For the second time in three days, the Banks and Seaside baseball teams went extra innings.

And the Gulls earned a little payback Thursday, scoring a 6-5, 11-inning win on the Braves’ home field, two days after Banks defeated Seaside 8-3 in eight innings at Broadway Field.

“That game just got out of hand, wasn’t really indicative of how we played,” Seaside coach Joel Dierickx said. “And Payton (Westerholm) was way up there in his pitch count, and things just started rolling (the Braves’) way.”

In Thursday’s rematch, the Gulls grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning, before the Braves rallied with a run in the fourth, and two apiece in the fifth and sixth for a 5-3 advantage.

Seaside tied it with two runs in the top of the seventh.

And after a scoreless eighth, ninth and 10th, the Gulls staged a rally in the 11, with Gage McFadden scoring on a wild pitch for the go-ahead run.

McFadden was 3-for-6 to lead Seaside’s 10-hit attack, and also retired the Braves in the bottom of the 11th to pick up the win on the mound.

After a one-out single to right in the top of the 11th, McFadden advanced to third on an error, then scored on a wild pitch for the eventual game-winner.

“Finally won one,” Dierickx said. “It was an epic game. Both Brayden (Johnson) and Gage threw fantastic. The way those two have pitched, along with Payton, has been a big reason for our improvement.”

Seaside improves to 2-4, with a pair of games against first-place Astoria next week.
