Gretchen Hoekstre, Track

In a three-way dual with Scappoose and Tillamook April 5, Hoekstre scored the only wins for the Seaside girls, winning the shot put and discus competitions. She had a season-best mark of 40-8 in the shot put, and 109-9 in the discus. Hoekstre is the No. 1-ranked thrower in the state at the 4A level in both events. She placed third in the long jump in the same meet.

Triple Play, Baseball

On March 30 at Madras, Seaside held a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, when Madras had runners at first and second with no outs and the heart of their order at the plate. A bunt was attempted off Seaside pitcher Payton Westerholm, who made a diving catch near the first base line. Westerholm fired the ball to Ashton Boyd at first for the second out, and Boyd delivered to Gage McFadden at second to complete the 1-3-6 triple play. The three players also combined for three hits and four runs scored in the 7-4 win. In his 21st year as the Seaside coach, it was the first triple play by the Gulls that Joel Dierickx has witnessed.
