Phone scammers target local medical professionals

If phone scammers are to be believed, local medical professionals have been skipping jury duty a lot lately.
Those in the medical field have received calls describing their supposed failure to appear for jury duty and their need to pay a fine in order to nix a warrant for their arrest, according to the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office.
Callers have identified themselves as sheriff’s deputies, listing names of local judges and Sheriff Tom Bergin. They often offer to meet at the sheriff’s office but would prefer victims go to Rite Aid and purchase green money cards.
The sheriff’s office said it does not operate this way and advises residents to hang up immediately if they receive a similar phone call. Questions about suspicious calls can be answered at 503-325-2061.
