- A concrete barrier was placed by a beach entrance along Ocean Avenue in Gearhart.
Gearhart residents noticed heavy concrete blocks the path to the beach. They turned to City Administrator Chad Sweet for answers.
Sweet reported Saturday large concrete blocks had been installed at the ocean trail heads off South Ocean Avenue.
“I didn’t know of the project so I said I’d get eyes on the situation,” Sweet said in a blog post.”I called my director of public works and police chief and found that they had a problem, designed a fix, and got-er-done.”
The blocks were installed to prevent unauthorized access to the dunes, Sweet said.
The city plans to remove the blocks and add removable wood post “emergency vehicles only” signs that will complement the environment, look pleasing, and prevent driving on the trails.
“My guys had good intentions,” Sweet added.
