Larry K. Senescu of Vancouver, Washington, passed away Oct. 10, at age 74, after a long journey with frontotemporal lobe dementia.

He was born in Seattle, Washington, to Phyllis Kiekenapp and David Senescu on Sept. 7, 1943. After his mothers death he was adopted and raised by his mother Barbara Senescu. Larry went to Bellevue High School and attended University of Puget Sound before going into the Army reserves. In 1966 Larry wed Mary Norwood and raised their two children in the Bellevue area. Larry began an almost 40-year career with Liberty Equipment and Supply Co. becoming president and CEO. After the company was sold Larry worked for McKinstry Co. and moved to Vancouver and retired.

Golf, tennis, running, fishing, kayaking and hiking were some of his favorite things to do. He was an avid reader and enjoyed history. His passions in life always involved family, church, dogs and the beach. As his kids grew he was always involved with them, coaching sports or volunteering with the scouts or church and school activities. He offered his time at St. Louise in Bellevue and Holy Redeemer in Vancouver, also being a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Seaside, Oregon. He was a Eucharistic minister and a Knight of Columbus. Larry and Mary volunteered their time with CCI, an organization that raises service dogs for the disabled, ending up with three golden retrievers in the household. Having a home in Seaside for over 30 years, many family memories were created at the beach.

We will remember most Larry’s perpetual dedication to family, his tireless work ethic and of course his never ending smile which he maintained to the very end.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis and David.

Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary; daughter, Laurie (Patrick) Daly; son, Jim (Jennifer) Senescu; and three granddaughters, Mary and Maeve Daly and Kati Senescu, all of the Vancouver-Camas area; also his mother, Barbara Senescu; brothers, Jerry, Gary, Barry Senescu, all from California; sister, Terry Hoogestede of Bend; his loving in-laws, Angie and Rich Holmen, Natalie Butler, Tom and Ruth Norwood; and numerous “Kiddies.”

Remembrances can be made in Larry’s name to Canine Companions for Independence, or the Association for Frontotemporal degeneration. Larry’s brain has been donated to OHSU brain research for study.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 400 S. Andresen Road, Vancouver, Washington, on Friday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. Reception to follow.
