SEASIDE — The Seaside softball team snapped a three-game losing skid and recorded their first win of the season March 24, a wild 15-14 victory over Cascade at Broadway Field.
It was the second loss in a row for the Cougars, who dropped a 13-12 decision to Molalla just the day before.
The Gulls opened their season at home March 16 against Molalla, in a single game at Broadway Field.
And the Gulls got off to a great start, scoring two runs in their first at-bat, but the Indians rallied with eight runs over the final five innings for an 8-2 victory over Seaside.
Molalla sophomore pitcher Analiz Wickham was the player of the day for the Indians, as she went the distance in the circle, allowing just two hits with 13 strikeouts and one walk. Wickham threw 90 pitches for the complete-game win.
Alyssa Goin and Sidney Owsley had the only two hits for Seaside, while Sequoia Shand drove in both runs.
Emily Evanson and Alicia Schultz each had two hits for Molalla.
Seaside returned to action a week later, when the Gulls hosted Corbett in a nonleague game March 23.
The Cardinals held a 3-1 lead after two innings, then scored six in the fourth on their way to an 11-1, five-inning win.
Tessa McAllister highlighted Corbett’s big inning with a home run, while Lindsey Flegel added a double.
Corbett pitchers Abby Fritz and Kara Moritz combined to strike out seven, with four walks and three hits allowed.
Seaside’s Jetta Ideue got her first start of the year, and allowed 10 hits with 10 strikeouts and six walks.
Lucy Bodner had a double and scored a run for the Gulls, while GeriAnn Klaffke drove in the lone Seaside run.
