Revised FEMA flood maps topic of Aug. 15 open house

Published 9:44 am Monday, August 8, 2016

Draft flood map revisions in Clatsop County and what they mean for property owners will be discussed during an open house on Aug. 15, at 6 p.m. at the Seaside Civic & Convention Center.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency, in partnership with the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development, has issued draft preliminary maps showing revisions to the 100-year floodplain, which has a 1-percent chance of flooding in any given year.

The draft revised flood maps cover properties along the Pacific coastline of Clatsop County. These maps will help community officials and local residents identify flood risks and when adopted, will be used for flood insurance, land use, and development decisions.

Clatsop County mailed letters and preliminary maps to property owners in unincorporated areas who, according to the draft preliminary flood maps, will have at least a portion of their property added to the 100-year floodplain. The draft preliminary maps can also be viewed as a map layer on Clatsop County’s online mapping tool called WebMaps (“Draft FEMA Revisions 2016”): http://maps.co.clatsop.or.us/applications/index.html
