SEASIDE — High winds and rain halted The Finish Line Event for Hood to Coast today in Seaside. Volunteers and visitors are asked by Seaside Chamber of Commerce, organizers of the event, to avoid the event area Saturday. For urgent concerns, contact 503-738-6891.

Race organizers said more than 13,000 people had been scheduled to participate in the 34th annual 198-mile race. “Our number one goal is to protect the safety of all parties involved in the event,” they posted on Facebook Saturday morning. “We are planning to modify the finish party to ensure our participants finish safely.”

Beach access was closed.

Businesses scrambled to accommodate guests as South County residents experienced intermittent power outages Saturday morning. The Seaside Shilo Inn and Providence Hospital provided refreshments and a first-aid station as needed.

The National Weather Service reported rain and wind throughout Saturday, with rain and breezy conditions Saturday night.
