Kendy Lin and Krystal Lin received honors for their performance at a recent competition.

Krystal Lin, 11, and Kendy Lin, 14, students of Seaside piano teacher Vicky McGath, were awarded high achievement awards for piano performances and ear training by the associated board of the Royal Schools of Music from England. They performed in Portland. Each received a certificate from England, advancing them to the next levels of competition.

Their examination consisted of playing three pieces, scales and arpeggios, sight reading, and a four-part aural test. Krystal received a distinction for grade one, also getting a perfect score in the sight reading and aural test portions of the exam. Kendy received a merit for grade three with a distinction for her Clementi Sonatina. Out of 40 students, only five distinctions and 14 merits were awarded.
