Between injuries, sickness and limited practice time last week, the Astoria girls basketball team did not have much of a chance Jan. 30 at Seaside, where the Gulls hosted the Lady Fish in a Cowapa Clatsop Clash.
Seaside’s Maddi Utti outscored Astoria all by herself, as the Super Soph scored 23 points, which included five 3-pointers in the first half.
Still battling the flu, a few Astoria starters saw limited action, while the Fishermen are still without Kaisa Israel, out with a foot injury.
Still, a basket by Kaylee Mitchell had Astoria trailing just 7-4 midway through the first quarter.
Utti answered with the second of her five 3-pointers, and that sparked Seaside on a 19-0 run that put the Gulls in front 26-4.
Seaside’s Whitney Westerholm and Paige Ideue both hit 3-pointers during a 21-3 run in the second half.
Allison Bussert added nine points for Seaside, which won its 15th straight league game.
