Dec. 6, 1926 — Oct. 19, 2014
Private family services will be held for Richard Allen “Dick” Hadeen, who passed away in Beaverton, Ore., on Oct. 19, 2014, at the age of 87.
Dick was born on Dec. 6, 1926, in Everett, Wash., to William and Rose (Harris) Hadeen. He attended Everett High School before joining the U.S. Coast Guard, for whom he honorably served during World War II, returning to Everett in 1946.
On June 11, 1948, he married Verna Pillar. Mr. Hadeen attended Bible school and eventually seminary, as well as earning a master’s degree in ministry later in his life. He began his ministry when he was 30 years old, serving numerous Baptist churches from Canada to Southern California.
To supplement his income, he worked at local lumber mills and lumber yards, enjoying that work very much. In fact, for the rest of his life he would ask, “How much lumber could that tree produce?” wherever he found himself. Upon “retirement,” Dick worked as a nursing home ministries chaplain until his death. He was completely devoted to his ministry and congregations.
Mr. Hadeen was preceded in death by a brother, William Hadeen, and is survived by his wife of 66 years, Verna Hadeen, of Beaverton; their children, Emily Lorett and husband, Joe, of Pendleton, Ore., Marcia Larson and husband, Larry, of Tigard, Ore., and Rick Hadeen and wife, Lynda, of Creswell, Ore.; and by five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hadeen will be interred with military honors at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to Verna Hadeen, 12520 S.W. Hart Road, Apt 101, Beaverton, OR 97008.
