Kendy Lin, 13, a piano student from Gearhart, received a “distinction” in a music performance earlier this year sponsored by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, based in England. The honor is bestowed on only a few students in the performances. Out of 53 students performing, only seven received “Distinction.” They are tested by an examiner from the United Kingdom. The exam included playing three pieces, sight reading, scales and arpeggios, and a four-part ear-training test. Kendy is the daughter of Maggie and Simon Lin, owners of the Great Wall Restaurant in Gearhart, and piano student of local instructor Vicky McGath.
